Brewed in Henley – Crazy Cow Brewery
Background on Crazy Cow Brewery
It all started with a dog fight…………
One morning, I saw on Facebook that there was a dog in distress in
Walkerville. A friend of mine and I decided to go help the dog and its family. In gratitude, the family gifted us some strawberry plants.
It began with 10 strawberry plants, but from that humble start, I ended up
with over 26,000 plants within two years. Part of improving my growing method was to make sure my soil and water were tested.
I went to the municipality with a sample of our borehole water for testing.
While I was there, I inquired about getting a liquor license, as manufacturing a beautiful local gin was always part of my vision.
The lady there told me it was virtually impossible but gave me the forms anyway. Determined, I started working on everything needed to get the license. Three years later, despite the COVID-19 pandemic slowing things down, I finally obtained the liquor license.
Slowly but surely, I started implementing my idea. My goal was to manufacture alcohol infused with fresh fruit, beginning with strawberries. I am now busy working on expanding to growing blueberries, pomegranates, blood oranges, passion fruit, and more, all using the same principles.
My mission and ethos are simple: to know what you’re growing so that you know what you’re drinking.
How long have you been doing this?
4 years
How do you develop your products?
I distil a base gin, and then I infuse fruit into the gin.
My gins are very seasonal: blood orange gin in the spring and strawberry gin in November. Over Easter, there is hot cross bun gin.
Where can people find you and support your business?
I am not open to the public, but I do attend markets and festivals.
I am also available for mobile gin tastings.
