Local men help keep the Weir clean
Due to a recent spate of illegal household garbage dumping at the Weir, local father-and-son team, Henk and Daniel Herbts, took it upon themselves to deal with the mess. Their neighbours applaud them; as one local says, ‘most people ignore the mess; they helped out of their own’.
It is unfortunate, but the Ward Councillor, Tony Dickinson, explained sometimes if black bags are placed out of the municipality’s normal route, they can forget.
A big thanks to Henk and Daniel, and a reminder to residents that recycling is set out on Wednesdays, and the garbage truck comes on Thursday. Do not dump garbage at the Weir; as of printing, the Henley on Klip dump is still closed, with waste disposal redirected to the following facilities: Vaal Marina Landfill, Blackwood Transfer Station, Galloway Transfer Station, and Kliprivier Transfer Station. Operating hours for all sites are Monday to Friday, 07:30–16:00. Saturdays & Public Holidays: 07:30–15:00 Sundays: 07:30–12:00
Concerned residents also advise drivers to approach the Weir at the speed limit and be mindful of dogs and stray cats; one has already been hit.
